DATA SCIENCE
In a world of increasing high volume and high velocity data flow and exchange, and in a world which has come to rely on technology and the internet for much of daily living, the extraction of information from often large and dynamic datasets is of great importance to almost every sector of society. From retail to defence, transport networks and from defence to academia, machine learning (ML) and artifical intelligence (AI), are massively important in shaping our world. Driverless cars, image recognition, internet search engines and product recommendation are but a few of the ways in which data science permeates our daily life.
For anyone interested in learning more about the field of Data Science, the following resources are warmly recommended:
-
Coursera online courses:
-
Machine Learning (Stanford University/Andrew Ng)
-
Data Science Specialization (Johns Hopkins University/Jeff Leek, Roger Peng & Brian Caffo)
-
Big Data Specialization (UCSD/Amarnath Gupta, Mai Nguyen & Ilkay Altintas)
-
-
S2DS/Pivigo - A course in London for MSc/PhD graduates wanting to move into a Data Science career.

Courses are great, however there's nothing quite like doing it for oneself... Why not try one of the many online competions and challenges? A well-known and respected source of such challlenges and publicaly available data is Kaggle.
